ASUU Considers Calling Off Strike After Long-hours Meeting With President Jonathan

Abuja – President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday led a negotiation meeting with the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to end the protracted strike embarked upon by the union since July 1.
The13-hour meeting started at about 2.30 p.m. on Monday at the Presidential Villa and ended at 3.30 a.m. on Tuesday. The meeting had in attendance the leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) led by their respective Chairmen Abduwaheed Omar and Bobbo Kaigama.

According to sources, the sum of N7 billion (naira) of Nigeria's tax payers funds was used for the burial of the foster mother of Nigeria's first lady, Patience Jonathan in her hometown of Okrika in Rivers State over the weekend.

ASUU STRIKE: We Are Tired Of Staying At Home! - Lecturers



Now when the strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is well into its fourth month, some lecturers are coming out in the open to advocate the suspension of the industrial action.
Writing on his Facebook wall, one of the lecturers said: “He who fights and run away lives to fight another day”.
Jude Osy Nwankwo, who teaches at the University of Nigeria (UNN), admitted that the strike is taking effect on the lecturers. His words:
