Galatasaray striker Didier Drogba has won the 2013 Golden Foot award at a ceremony in Monte Carlo.The Golden Foot award is an annual award given to football players above the age of 28 and still playing.
Sugar Sport reports that the Ivory Coast international became the first African player to win the award and beat other nominees such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Andres Iniesta, Frank Lampard, David Trezeguet, Andrea Pirlo, Samuel Eto’o, Iker Casillas, David Beckham and Miroslav Klose.
Drogba is also only the second player to be honoured that has played in the Premier League, with Manchester United midfielder Ryan Giggs the only other name from England’s top-flight to receive recognition.
Last year, Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic picked up the prestigious award. Previous winners include illustrious names such as Roberto Baggio, Ronaldo, Ryan Giggs, Alessandro Del Piero and Francesco Totti.
