Afro-pop superstar Iyanya celebrated his birthday today with a visit to Ikoyi Prisons. The singer who just turned 27 was welcomed warmly by the DCP Bamidele and the community; he proceeded into the correctional facility where he spoke with the inmates.

ASUU Strike: Police Uses Tear Gas Against Protesting Lecturers of UniAbuja

The Nigerian Police Force used tear gas against the members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Abuja branch, as they mobilise for their protest into the streets of the Federal Capital City, Abuja.
Eyewitnesses said that the lecturers had gathered at the mini-campus of the university at Gwagwalada for the protest when suddenly policemen and plain clothes security personnel took over the entire arena and prevented them from the embarking on the protest.
Dr. Clement Chup, zonal Chairman of ASUU, told the journalists that ASUU forwarded a written request to the Commissioner of Police at Gwagwalada to notify him of their intentions, but all the protesters were shocked when the policemen showed up and prevented them from entering the campus. Read the press statement of ASUU rep below:

Police in Brazil have launched a manhunt after the severed head of a former professional footballer was left on the doorstep of his home. The horrified wife of Joao Rodrigo Silva Santos, 35, made the gruesome discovery as she left the house in Rio de Janeiro for work early yesterday morning.
The player's eyes and tongue had been cut out and his head placed inside one of his own rucksacks, police said. Mr Santos retired from football two years ago after a successful career playing for several teams in Rio de Janeiro, as well as for clubs in Sweden and Honduras.

128 Killed In Yobe Boko-Haram Attack

EFCC arrests six FCT workers for land fraud

Six members of staff of the Federal Capital Territory Administration are currently being interrogated by the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for alleged fraud and land racketeering.
The workers, attached to the Abuja Geographic Information Systems and the Land Administration department, have already been suspended by the FCT minister, Senator Bala Mohammed, who was reportedly saddened by their nefarious act.

ASUU STRIKE: We Are Tired Of Staying At Home! - Lecturers

Now when the strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is well into its fourth month, some lecturers are coming out in the open to advocate the suspension of the industrial action.
Writing on his Facebook wall, one of the lecturers said: “He who fights and run away lives to fight another day”.
Jude Osy Nwankwo, who teaches at the University of Nigeria (UNN), admitted that the strike is taking effect on the lecturers. His words:
